Since 1983, the Fund has provided over $2.3 million in renewable, need-based scholarships to nearly 1000 graduates of the public high schools of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. These scholarships have provided much needed support for students at colleges, universities, and technical and professional schools in Virginia and elsewhere in the United States. Scholarship recipients have applied their awards for undergraduate study at the University of Virginia, Virginia State University, Virginia Tech, the College of William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Piedmont Virginia Community College, as well as at the University of North Carolina, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia University, among others. Students have also pursued graduate, legal, and medical studies with the Fund’s support.

Application Process

Who may apply?

Any public high school senior in Charlottesville and Albemarle County who plans to pursue a post-secondary education and presents real financial need.

How to apply?

  1. Get application from guidance department.
  2. Complete entire application, including parent/guardian financial information.
  3. Return application to guidance, which will attach recommendation and transcript and deliver by March 15

How are scholarship award decisions made?

  1. Executive Director screens for eligibility
  2. Directors review eligible applicants and meet in April to determine awards
  3. Recipients notified by letter in May
  4. Award letter contains critical information for renewing

Renewal Process

Are awards renewable?

Awards are renewable for up to four years based on the following criteria:

  • Satisfactory academic progress
  • Continued financial need

To renew, provide personal statement, financial information, transcript, and recommendation by March 1 each year
